Railroad/National Penn Bank Train Sign

The city of Reading has long been renowned for it's railroad industry.

Anyone who has ever played the game of Monopoly has heard of the Reading Railroad.

One of the signature aspects of First Energy Stadium is the active train tracks that pass through the stadium parking lots.  Often on game days, fans hear the whistle of trains departing with or delivering materials to Carpenter Technology.  Carpenter's property adds to the surroundings of the stadium and paints a picture of Reading as a blue-collar town.

Inside the ballpark, just beyond the center field wall, resides the National Penn Bank Exploding Train.  The sign is an integral part of Reading Phillies rallies and fan excitement. When an R-Phils runner gets into scoring position the railroad-crossing lights and signal turn on and smoke begins to billow from the locomotive's stack.  When a runner scores the lights and smoke resume while neon illuminates the train and tracks while fireworks blast from the smoke stack.
