Playing Field

The playing field is approximately three acres of grass, dirt and stone. It was completely redone in the fall of 2007 as 103,000 square feet of Kentucky bluegrass was used to re-sod the entire field. The infield skinned area is a mixture of 65% sand, 20% silt and 15% clay. The warning track is made up of limestone screenings.

The playing surface is graded to ensure that rain runs off the field and onto the warning track, where it can be channeled into a drainage system. Three subsurface drain lines are buried beneath the grass in shallow right field to handle excess water that accumulates when the tarp is pulled off the field.

In order to keep the grass in top condition, the field is equipped with an irrigation system that includes 70 sprinkler heads, 40 of which are located within the turf area. Thirty more heads are positioned along the warning track.

The outfield wall is nine feet high from the left field foul pole to the left field power alley. The wall is 10 feet high the remaining stretch to the right field foul pole, except directly in front of the right field pool, where it is five feet. The dimensions are 330 feet down both foul lines, 370 feet to each power alley and 400 to dead center.

The playing field is supervised by Director of Stadium Grounds Dan "Dirt" Douglas. "Dirt" is a three-time Eastern League Groundskeeper of the Year award winner.
In 2002 he was honored with the Harry C. Gill Award, a founders award from the Sports Turf Managers Association.

He is also the President of the Keystone Athletic Field Manager's Organization.
