Brad Lidge was the big story of the day for Reading, coming down from big league camp to toss one inning of shutout ball, he walked one and struck out two. Tim Kennelly led the R-Phils offense with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Neil Sellers also had a hot bat, finishing 4-for-5 with a run scored. Zach Penprase went 2-for-2 with an RBI and one run scored. Reading pitchers Ryan Cameron, Nate Johnson and Zac Stott combined to toss four innings of scoreless relief and Carlos Carrasco gave up two runs over four innings, surrendering three hits and striking out three. Jayson Werth, on loan from big league camp, made up half the offense for the IronPigs with a solo homer in a 1-for-3 effort. Val Pascucci also knocked in a run and Peter Laforest and Mike Cervenak (3-for-4) each picked up a double. On the mound for Lehigh Valley it was Matt Childers leading the way, tossing two scoreless innings of relief while striking out three batters. Andy Tracy also picked up two hits, finishing the game 2-for-4
In a battle between the Phils A-ball clubs it was Lakewood that grabbed the win as pitchers Christopher Kissock, Richard Austin, Joseph Rocchio and Walter Tejeda each tossed two innings of shutout ball, combining to give up just seven hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Travis Mattair picked up a run in a 1-for-2 effort and D'Arby Myers and T.J. Warren also picked up a hit each. Christopher Rhoads gave up no runs on one hit to close out the game for the BlueClaws. Clearwater was unable to score any runs but did had five different players pick up hits, led by Gus Milner's 2-for-2 effort. Tuffy Gosewisch also collected two hits, finishing 2-for-3. Adrian Cardenas, Joel Naughton and Charlier Yarbrough all finished 1-for-3. The Threshers got a solid effort on the mound from Edgar Garcia who tossed four innings of shutout ball while giving up two hits and striking out two. Zack Segovia pitched two innings of scoreless relief and Brett Harker pitched the games final frame, giving up no runs on one hit while striking out one. |
