Previous R-Phils Interns

Over the years the Reading Phillies have produced various employees for both Minor League Baseball and the surrounding community.  In the first few years of the internship program there were as few as two interns helping the front office.  Over the past 18 years the internship program has grown each year.  This year we are looking to hire eight to ten Reading Phillies Junior Associates to help with another successful baseball season. The following is a list of the former Reading Phillies interns who have furthered their careers in sports or in other fields around our community.

Derek Martin
Assistant GM of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans
R-Phils Intern 2001
"The first game I worked as an intern in Reading also happened to be my first ever Minor League baseball game. From the start I enjoyed the atmosphere and throughout the experience I came to realize how many different aspects were involved in the sport industry. My passion for baseball grew stronger the more I understood about the business and I am so thankful for having the opportunity to do an internship in Reading. Now I can't imagine not working in Minor League Baseball."
Tom Denlinger
Assistant GM of the Daytona Cubs
R-Phils Intern 2003
“My experience as a Reading Phillies Intern was pivotal to where I am today. The atmosphere of the RPhils is one in which it allows you to learn all the different aspects that are within Minor League Baseball, and enables you to experience the many different facets. From my experience and the help of the front office I was able to land my first job in Delmarva which has shaped my career to where I am today. That summer in Reading was the stepping stone in my career and I’m thankful to have had the opportunity.”
Joe Pew
Law Clerk, St. Paul City Attorney's Office
R-Phils Intern 1996
"Minor League Baseball is a great way to learn the business of sports marketing and there's no better team to learn from than the Reading Phillies. From my first day as an intern, I was working with fans and learning how to run a successful franchise. The R-Phils front office was very accessible - from the owner and the GM on down. Everyone listened to everyone else's ideas, which is a great way to learn on the job. My experience during my intern year made me realize that I wanted a job in baseball - which I found with the Reading Phillies for the next 8 years. And now that I'm outside baseball I realize that my time with the Phillies taught me a lot about business in general as well as honed my people skills. Since leaving the team, I've worked on different projects including consulting. My time with the Reading Phillies taught me to think about business in an unusual and useful way. I'm now working as a prosecutor and often rely on what I learned with the Phillies when I'm dealing with people in a courtroom. Whether I'm negotiating on a deal or appearing in front of a judge, my time with Phillies provided me with both experience and confidence."
