The Pittsburgh Pirates announced on November 20 that former R-Phils manager Gary Varsho has been named to the Major League coaching staff for the 2008 season. The announcement was made by Pirates Senior Vice President and General Manager Neal Huntington along with Field Manager John Russell.
Varsho will be the club's Bench Coach. The former Bucco outfielder returns to the organization for the first time since playing for manager Jim Leyland in 1994. Varsho, 41, was Cleveland's minor league Outfield/Baserunning Coordinator in 2007 after spending five seasons (2002-06) as the Philadelphia Phillies Bench Coach.
