Five R-Phils to play in All-Star game
Reading, PA – The Eastern League has announced the rosters for the Northern and Southern squads for the annual All-Star Game to be held in Trenton on July 15 at 7:05 PM.
At the time of their selections Savery led the EL with 10 wins and ranks 4th with 84.2 IP. Overall he
was 10-1 with a 3.08 ERA. He allowed 70 H, 29 R, 29 ER, 39 BB and struck out 58. The Phillies first-round draft pick from Rice University in 2007 (19th overall), has won 10 straight decisions and has not lost since April 16.
Sellers .300 average led EL third baseman. His 8 HR and 44 RBI were T-1st at his position. His .834 OPS
was 2nd. He’s played every game this season. Sellers was acquired by the Phillies in the Minor League phase of the Rule 5 Draft from Houston 12/6/07. He was originally the Astros 32nd round pick in the 2004 draft out of Eastern Kentucky University.
Taylor led the league in hitting with a.348 average, was T-3rd with 14 HR and second with 56 RBI. He
was first in hits (94), 5th in OBP (.414), second in slugging (.596) and 2nd in OPS (1.009). He’s
was also had stolen 14 bases and notched six outfield assists while playing both left and right field. Taylor was the Phillies 5th round draft choice in 2007 out of Stanford University.
Worley began this season in the EL after being drafted in 2008. The last Phillies Minor Leaguer to do that was Pat Burrell, drafted in 1998 and in Reading for Opening Day 1999. The last pitcher to do so was Randy Wolf, drafted in 1997 and in Reading for Opening Day 1998. Worley
was 2nd in the EL with 89.1 IP. He was 5-4 with a 3.63 ERA. He had allowed 76 H, 40 R, 36 ER, 29 BB and struck out 61. Worley was the Phillies 3rd round pick last year out of Long Beach State University.
Berry, named to the team as an injury
replacement on July 13, was hitting .279. The R-Phils center fielder
and leadoff hitter led the league in runs scored with 60 and stolen bases
with 32.
