Philadelphia Phillies extend PDC with Reading for two seasons

Reading, PA – The Philadelphia Phillies have extended their Player Development Contract with the Reading Phillies for two more seasons. The current four-year extension expires after the 2008 season. A PDC can be renewed for two or four year terms.

This most recent extension ensures that the Phillies Double-A club will call Reading home through the 2010 season.

The relationship between the R-Phils and big Phils started in 1967. It’s tied with the Lakeland Flying Tigers (Detroit) for the third longest partnership between a Major and Minor League city in all of baseball. Only the Bluefield Orioles (Baltimore, 1958) and the Richmond Braves (Atlanta, 1966) have enjoyed continued success for longer periods of time.

The Phillies also extended the PDC with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs today. The IronPigs are the Phillies new Triple-A affiliate. That contract was extended for the maximum four years.

Reading’s current PDC was signed on October 6, 2004.
