Winning start
The R-Phils had a winning April (13-12) for the second consecutive season for the first time since having three straight winning Aprils 2000-2002.
Hit man
Greg Golson’s 32 hits in April were the most by an R-Phil in a long time. Dating back to 1996, only Javon Moran (28 in 2007), Jorge Padilla (29 in 2002) and Scott Rolen (28 in 1996) have even approach that total in the season’s first month.
RBI man
Jeremy Slayden’s 20 RBI in April were the most by an R-Phil since Steve Carver had 21 in 1998. Carver’s total included a team-record eight in one game 4/20/98 at Harrisburg. Dating back to 1996, Slayden and Carver are the only two R-Phils to reach 20 RBI in April.
Streakers
Through May 1, Lou Marson
(pictured) has reached base in 16 consecutive ballgames. During his streak he’s hit .301 (16-53) with 12 BB and a .431 OBP.
IF Luke Appert (.461, 12-26) and RF Jeremy Slayden (.419, 13-1) are each carrying eight-game hitting streaks (through May 1), longest on the team.
Baseball, National League style
At the conclusion of the May 5-12 homestand, barring any postponements, the R-Phils will have played 17 home games - all against National League affiliates. When two NL affiliates play in the Eastern League, pitchers hit. Reading will use a DH at home for the first time on May 16 vs. Akron. The DH has not had a lot work on the road either. Reading has only had nine road games, out of 17, vs. American League affiliates.
What a relief
Through games of April 29 righty Patrick Overholt
was 5th among all Double-A relivers with a .128 batting average against. Lefty R.J. Swindle
(pictured) was 6th, holding the opposition to a .130 average.
